StarField Applications using StarPak™
48
|
|
-
For
installation in existing structures, working access
to area above ceiling is required. Installation in
new construction using materials such as sheet rock
and suspended ceilings, is done directly in the materials
before the materials are installed.
-
Illuminator(s) are located as close as possible to
starfield area allowing for air flow and electrical
connections as detailed in illuminator specifications.
-
Starfield design possibilities are infinite. Typical
installations usually use 3 - 4 points per square
foot. Patterns and constellations are accomplished
by using a pattern or template.
-
StarPak
48 cable contains 48 fibers or “points”
in each cable. To determine how many cable runs will
be required for an area, determine how many points
are desired and then divide that number by 48. This
will be the number of cables of StarPak 48 that will
be required.
-
Determine the length of each cable run allowing for
adequate cable to work around obstructions etc. Also,
allow 4ft. of extra cable to be a “service loop”
at the illuminator location for future cable maintenance
etc.
-
-
Individual fibers are installed by drilling through
material, inserting fiber and applying epoxy and or
silicon to the backside of the fiber and hole. Epoxy
and Silicone should be a type compatible with Acrylic
fiber (see Accessories).
-
Holes for fiber should be drilled according to the
following:
For .75mm / .030” fiber use a .85mm / .040”
drill bit size
For 1.0mm / .040” fiber use a 1.1mm / .050”
drill bit size
For 1.5mm / .060” fiber use a 1.6mm / .070”
drill bit size
-
Fiber should be allowed to extend at least 4 inches
on viewable side of material to allow for trimming
after ceiling material is installed, finished or painted
etc. Fibers are then trimmed leaving approximately
1/4” of fiber extending to allow for future
trimming after additional painting etc.
-
With fibers installed and secured in final positions,
fiber tails are carefully arranged and run in previously
planned pathways back to illuminator locations.
-
If using a StarPak Starfield Kit or a Clearfuse Harness,
the ferrule end is inserted into the illuminator.
If ends are to be hot knife cut on site, fiber ends
are bundled together, cut and inserted into the ferrule.
The ferrule is then inserted into illuminator and
the illuminator power is turned on.
